An embarrassing loss heading into the bye week
Too many Packers mistakes to overcome
It was a rainy day at Lambeau Field as the Packers repeated mistakes cost them against their division rival resulting in a frustrating loss for Green Bay. QB Jordan Love threw another costly pick increasing his league leading interception count to 10 for the season. Although RB Josh Jacobs had a big first half, Green Bay neglected the run once they fell behind as he finished with 95 yards on 13 carries. WR Jayden Reed had a big game with 5 receptions and 113 yards. Be sure to catch our full game recap.
Lions 24, Packers 14: Game Balls/Lame Calls
If there were lingering questions about whether the Lions are the superior team in the NFC North, Detroit’s 24-14 win at Lambeau on Sunday should have erased all doubts.
It’s a hard concept for Packer nation to accept, but it’s time. Sure, the Packers provided plenty of assistance to the Lions -- to an embarrassing degree — but that’s the point: With the division lead and potential playoff seedings at stake, while enjoying home-field advantage in conditions that have previously bedeviled Jared “The Dome Dude” Goff, Green Bay made mistake after mistake — and were out-coached — while the Lions executed almost flawlessly.
Thankfully, the Packers now have their bye, giving Jordan Love and some of his teammates a chance to heal for what we can only hope will be a strong stretch run over the next eight games. They will need the extra time not only on the trainers’ table, but on the practice field, because there’s a lot to clean up before heading to Chicago in two weeks. Perhaps most disappointing: many of the issues — drops, penalties and back-breaking interceptions on balls that should never be thrown -- aren’t new. Yet they persist. The reality is that the Packers have put together three consecutive sub-par performances, barely surviving the first two before being buried by one of the two best teams in football. This game was not nearly as close as the score suggests.

Packers Snap Counts: Week 9 Vs. The Lions
The Packers elevated CB Kamal Hadden from the practice squad given that Jaire Alexander was out. Hadden has been on the practice squad since August and was previously elevated for the week four meeting with the Vikings. CB Robert Rochell had been the first CB elevation but he is out of elevations, though Rochell is still on the practice squad. It is not clear what the plan is for Rochell; roster spots are scarce as it is and presumably Marshawn Lloyd and Luke Musgrave are going to return from injured reserve at some point. The healthy scratches and players who did not play should be looking over their shoulders. The inactive players due to injury were CB Jaire Alexander, OC Josh Myers, and S Evan Williams. The healthy scratches were DE Brenton Cox, WR Malik Heath, OT Travis Glover. OT Andre Dillard and QB Malik Willis were active but did not play.

The Lass Word: What the Packers hope to be
In many ways the Detroit Lions are the football team the Packers hope to develop into one day. Tough. Smart. Disciplined. Poised. Versatile and adaptable. The Packers are the opposite of all those things. There is little talent difference between these two teams. What separated them was mistakes and self-inflicted wounds. The Packers had them in abundance, the Lions didn’t.
It would be easy to blame all the sloppy play on the miserable weather conditions. Except the Lions, who were playing their first outdoor game of the season by the way, weren’t bothered at all by the downpour. No drops, no bad snaps. No ridiculous quarterback gaffes. No pre-snap penalties. No turnovers. If the Lions could adjust to the weather, Green Bay should have been able to as well.
The Packers have now played three of the best teams in the NFC, and have failed to rise to the occasion against any of them. Both the Lions and the Vikings have shown the Packers what a playoff team looks like, and they’ve done it at Lambeau. Mathematically, Green Bay is still in the middle of the playoff picture, but to stay there they will have to get more out of their ability. Maybe a week off will help them figure it out…
