Packers sign Brandon McManus to three-year deal
Brandon McManus absolutely saved the Packers at kicker last season after the disaster that was Brayden Narveson.
The veteran free agent addition made 20 of his 21 regular season field goals and all 30 extra points last year. Fans will undoubtedly also remember his miss in the playoff game against the Eagles, but on balance, McManus was an excellent addition who made several tough, cold weather kicks and steadied a kicker position that had been in flux since the team moved on from Mason Crosby.
McManus’ three-year, $15.3 million deal includes a $5 million signing bonus.
The NFL Sets The 2025 Salary Cap Limit
The NFL announced that the salary cap limit for 2025 will be $279.2M. The Packers did not spend every possible dime last year. The Packers rolled over $15.11M in unused cap into the 2025 league year.
Be sure to check out the latest on where the Packers stand in regards to the salary cap.

The Big Question Concerning Kenny Clark
The Green Bay Packers signed defensive tackle Kenny Clark to a rare third contract with the team last July. The deal was announced as a three-year, $64 million contract that provided the former first-round pick a $17.5 million signing bonus. If he plays out all three years of it, he will remain with the Packers through the end of the 2027 season.
But Clark suffered through a disappointing 2024 campaign. He saw his sack total go down to one after recording a career-high 7.5 in 2023. The UCLA alum also saw his quarterback hits go down to five from 16 the previous season and his tackles for loss cut from nine to just four. The only meaningful area in which Clark’s statistics went up was fumble recoveries. He had two in 2024 after recording none the previous year.
The key question surrounding Clark is whether the 29-year-old just suffered through an off season or if he’s reached the point where his body is slowing down, and he will no longer be able to play at the Pro Bowl level we saw from him throughout most of the NFL career.
Packers bring back Isaiah McDuffie on two year deal
The Packers have re-signed LB Isaiah McDuffie to a two-year, $8-million deal with upside to $9.5M.
McDuffie is coming off a 94 tackle effort in 2024, the first year in Jeff Hafley's 4-3 scheme while playing 528 snaps at linebacker for the Packers. He also added two quarterback hits and a forced fumble. Much has been made about McDuffie's history with Hafley, having played for him at Boston College, which no doubt played a factor in his return. That familiarity should serve him well if called into extended action should Quay Walker or Edgerrin Cooper miss time.

History Is Against a Blockbuster Pre-Draft Trade
Every offseason when NFL players go on the trading block, many Green Bay Packers fans come up with trade ideas for particular players. This offseason is no different with players in position of need being “available.”
The Packers have a big need for an edge rusher and a smaller need for a veteran wide receiver. Insert players like Myles Garrett, Maxx Crosby and D.K. Metcalf into this wish list for many Packers fans.
However, it has been a long time since a Packers general manager paid a premium in draft picks for a veteran player before the draft. Under both Ted Thompson and Brian Gutekunst the Packers have not traded a single draft pick in the months leading up to the draft. Both general managers have executed trade ups on draft day, but those were to draft players.

Packers Can Stand To Upgrade Tight End Depth

Yes, Tucker Kraft was excellent last year, but Kraft played far too many snaps in 2024. He played the 4th most snaps on the offensive side of the ball at 85% of all snaps, equal to 925 snaps. The only 3 ahead of him were offensive lineman. That's a lot of snaps and the Packers offense needs Kraft as fresh as possible and can’t risk wearing him down throughout the course of the season. A young man still at only 24 years old but those snaps can catch up to him quickly.
This is the Green Bay Packers we are talking about, they are likely to do as significant additions via the draft so that’s where I would expect any tight end addition to come from. As a team that is not known for just throwing around money to fix problems, fans shouldn’t expect them to invest significant money in a top tier wide receiver as many are clamoring for. Instead, expect them to invest on improving on the fringes of the roster, such as tight end depth.
