What Will The Cornerback Room Look Like In 2024?

Even with Keisean Nixon all but penciled in as the team’s nickel for the 2024 season, given the high price tag, I still think it behooves Gutekunst to spend at least one of the team’s 11 draft picks on a cornerback. As you may recall, Jaire Alexander was sidelined for 10 games last year, Rasul Douglas was traded to the Buffalo Bills at the trade deadline, and Eric Stokes only appeared in three games, leaving Carrington Valentine, a 2023 seventh-round rookie, and Corey Ballentine, who was signed to the practice squad in late September, as the two starters on the outside at various points throughout the season.

Plus, Alexander has played only 27 out of a possible 51 games over the last three seasons, and Stokes has been snake-bitten by injuries over the last two seasons, having played in only 12 games. Not to mention, Stokes is entering his fourth season; it is highly unlikely – if not guaranteed – that the Packers will not pick up his fifth-year option in May.

Take a closer look at the potential makeup of the cornerback room in 2024.

What makes the Packers such a well run franchise?

The Lass Word: Love Extension Could Become a Bargain

Time marches on. Perceptions change. Today four quarterbacks other than four-time league MVP and Super Bowl champion Aaron Rodgers have exceeded the $50 million per year average contract. Joe Burrow leads all at $55 million. Justin Herbert is next at $52.5. Lamar Jackson averages $52, and Jalen Hurts stands at $51 million. Not a single one of these players has won a Super Bowl. Only one of them (Jackson) has been an MVP.

Clearly, Ken Lass writes, it’s time to adjust our thinking as to what the cost of doing business with franchise quarterbacks should be.

Last Chance on the Packers Sideline for Rich Bisaccia

What happened to Bisaccia's hiring being the cure the Packers needed for their lackluster Special Teams? It's hard to blame it on player personnel when the Packers have signed/drafted around five players of Bisaccia's choosing to help. Something's got to give, and quick.

A Career Defining Year Ahead for Isaiah McDuffie

Packers linebacker Isaiah McDuffie had been a bit of an afterthought up until this past season. In his rookie season, he saw the field in 13 games where he only logged snaps on special teams. In 2022, he finally got in on defensive snaps logging 17% of the snaps, and in 2023 he saw his snaps drastically increase as he saw action for 48% of all defensive snaps.

He saw his role increase and so did the stats as he finished second on the team to only Quay Walker with 86 tackles. The reason for the increase in his role on the defense was mainly due to injuries to DeVondre Campbell and Quay Walker during the season. But McDuffie certainly rose to the occasion and made plenty of big plays on defense to show he belonged there. And with the departure of DeVondre Campbell this offseason, it certainly looks like McDuffie will have an opportunity to prove he can be a starter.
