Free Agency is just around the corner!

Teams can start talking to free agents next Monday

With the NFL Combine in the rearview mirror and all the franchise and transition tags in place around the league, free agency is right around the corner.

Starting next Monday, March 11th at Noon est and through Wednesday, March 13th at 4pm est, teams are permitted to contact, and enter into contract negotiations with the agents of players who are about to become unrestricted free agents. (One could suggest that the two parties would simply be picking up where they left off while they were out and about at the Combine last week, but we digress…) The 2024 NFL new league year and free agency signing period begin at 4pm est on the 13th. Player trades for 2024 can also begin at that time.

Packers fans should be expecting news on David Bakhtiari, De’Vondre Campbell and Aaron Jones prior to the start of the new league year. Be sure you’re checking Cheesehead TV for all the latest!

Will the Packers Make a Run at Xavier McKinney?

Former Giants safety Xavier McKinney is set to be one of the best safeties on the market. Could Green Bay be interested? The Packers are known for bargain bin hunting. They'd much rather find that cheaper diamond in the rough or fill team needs with draft picks than overspend in free agency. For the most part, it's worked to their advantage.

But this year could be a little different. With one of the youngest teams in the league and a few holes to be filled on the roster, it may be wise to bring in a few more veterans to take those spots. Even though most of the team's experience is on the defensive side of the ball already, with a new defensive coordinator and scheme entering the building, it may be a good idea to fill any defensive holes with a veteran or two. Could McKinney be in play?

#PackersDaily: On the doorstep of free agency

With the franchise and transition tags applied, Brian Gutekunst and the Packers have a clear understanding of what the free agent landscape will look like.

2024 Class of Wide Receivers Will Be Hard for Packers to Ignore

The Packers have a plethora of young, exciting wide receivers to build around as they look to return to 'Super Bowl contender' status, but that does not mean they will shy away from adding another player to the mix.

Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine last week, general manager Brian Gutekunst remained open to drafting another wideout, despite the strength of his current group, emphasizing the benefit competition had on the entire receiver room. “All those players did a really nice job in 2023 of competing and taking advantage of their opportunities, but 2024 is a new year and they will need to do the same thing again” said Gutekunst. “We are going to bring in players to compete with them”.

If that is the case, this draft is another great chance to add real talent to the wide receiver position. This was driven home by the impressive performance of so many players who competed at the Combine, especially in the athletic testing. Check out which wide receivers could be on the Packers draft board.
