Free agency reverts to regularly scheduled programming

Does LaFleur think about what might have been?

The Packers returned to their regular offseason mode this past week, with little more than the re-signing of Keisean Nixon to satiate the constantly refreshing Packers fans perched in front of their computers waiting for more free agency news.

Nixon is an interesting player to bring back into the fold. There’s no doubt he can be a weapon as a returner but his play from scrimmage last year was inconsistent at best and downright hard to watch at worst. Bringing him back on a three year deal (which the team can easily get out of after this season if Nixon doesn’t perform the way they expect him to) suggests they think Jeff Hafley and his staff can get something out of him that Joe Barry’s crew might not have. There’s also a decent chance the Packers will bring in competition via the draft. No handing the starting nickel cornerback job to Nixon.

Speaking of finally turning the page to a new defensive coordinator after three years of disappointment, be sure to read some good stuff from Jersey Al this week, who wrote in his weekly column, “Matt LaFleur has to squarely take the blame for the wasted opportunities of the last three seasons. Every Packer fan on the planet looked at Barry's past coaching record and asked, ‘why would they hire him?’ But LaFleur did. And after a season of seeing what his defense was about, the fans asked, ‘why should we keep him?’ But LaFleur did. After a second season where things got worse and the Packers missed the playoffs, fans asked, ‘LaFleur wouldn't keep Barry, would he?’ But Matt did. In the third season, the Packers surprised the NFL world by making the playoffs and running roughshod over the Cowboys at Lambeau South. After that, they came within one defensive stand of advancing to the NFC Championship game when Barry's defense did their thing and sat back and allowed Brock Purdy to march the 49ers down the field as if he were Joe Montana. FINALLY, that was the last straw for LaFleur and I hope he's kicking himself every day thinking about what might have been...”

Packers Need to Build Back Their Offensive Line Depth

On Monday evening, news broke of the Carolina Panthers signing former Packers' offensive tackle, Yosh Nijman to a two-year, $8M deal with $5M guaranteed and a max value of $15M. They'd already lost Guard Jon Runyan to the New York Giants and released longtime starting Tackle, David Bakhtiari. Runyan and Bakhtiari were in a way, expected. Nijman honestly was too in a way, but with his departure the Packers find themselves very thin at the tackle position for 2024. So, how are they going to fill out that offensive line room?

Let's Talk Football: QB development

How will the Green Bay Packers address their linebacker need?

The first and second waves of NFL free agency have come and gone, which saw general manager Brian Gutekunst and the Green Bay Packers sign two marquee free agents: safety Xavier McKinney and running back Josh Jacobs. (The team also re-signed Keisean Nixon and A.J. Dillon, among others.) On the flip side, Green Bay parted ways with linebacker De’Vondre Campbell, among others, paving the way for Quay Walker to take over at LB1 while also leaving the position thin. Where do the Packers go from here?

Campbell has some things to say on his way out the door

The former Packers linebacker took to X on Sunday morning with plenty of thoughts about his time in Green Bay, particularly about the coaching staff.

Packers Prospects: 5 Cornerbacks to Know in the 2024 NFL Draft

Cornerback is a strong position in this year’s draft, and Green Bay could have interest in taking one early, with the strength of the group behind Jaire Alexander questionable. Like any other position, the Packers have certain measurables they want cornerbacks to hit for them to consider drafting that prospect. Similarly to receivers, they generally like their corners bigger. Marc Oldacres looks at five cornerback prospects who fit the traditional size and athleticism mold the Packers look for:
