Hard not to be excited about this draft!

Meet Your Green Bay Packers 2025 Draft Picks

The 2025 Green Bay Packers draft classes addressed several key areas of need, yet despite this, it featured some surprises. There is the headliner, of course: for the first time since 2002 (as Mark Murphy was eager to point out to the hometown fans), the Packers drafted a wide receiver with their first round pick.

But it wasn’t until the seventh round that the Packers took a player from what is arguably their other biggest position of need: cornerback. It is a bit surprising that, given the uncertainty surrounding Jaire Alexander, the Packers did not end up prioritizing the position with their picks. Certainly there are a variety of factors here; the way the board fell, the injuries to some of the higher end possibilities, the general lack of depth in the pool. But still, corner was already a big question mark at the end of the season, and the Packers at this point have not really taken any steps to address the position.

Overall, though, it’s hard not to be excited about this draft. Matthew Golden and Savion Williams are a pair of really exciting prospects for the offense, and the Packers threw in a couple very different players into the pass rush while getting a bit of a steal on the interior defensive line. It’ll be a long time before we know anything for sure, but I feel pretty satisfied with the players that are coming to Titletown.

2025 Green Bay Packers Draft Q&A

CHTV co-founder Aaron Nagler chats with Packers fans worldwide about Green Bay's 2025 Draft class.

2025 NFL Draft: The Reasons Behind the Picks

It’s not always easy to believe an NFL general manager when he steps to the podium in a pre-draft news conference and says he feels no urgency to improve any particular area of his team. That he is going to stick to his board and select the best player available. But skeptics aside, that’s what Green Bay’s Brian Gutekunst appeared to do through at least the first two days of the 2025 draft.

This draft likely didn’t provide a single new starter. That’s the way it should be for a playoff team that already has a quality line up. But this was a fresh infusion of good culture guys who will get their chance to contribute, and the team will need solid productivity from them if they are to compete in the NFC.

Around the NFC North: 2025 NFL Draft Edition

In a rare year, most experts graded the Packers' draft better than the drafts of all three inferior NFC North teams. Those teams must've made some truly horrific selections if you listen to some Packers fans on twitter who were fit to be tied because the Packers took an offensive lineman in the second who the consensus board (the consensus board is the average ranking of non-NFL people for each draftable player) said should go in the third. The horror.

Draft grades are obviously nonsense but why not bask in the glory of being in a division full of bad drafters? This year at least. Let's get into the picks!

Packers sign free agent LB Isaiah Simmons

After meeting with him prior to the draft, the Packers have signed free agent linebacker Isaiah Simmons.

Simmons began his NFL career as an incredibly promising defensive player, drafted eighth overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2020 draft. Unfortunately, the Clemson product never really progressed past being an impressive athlete, never finding a home at linebacker or nickel cornerback for Arizona. The Cardinals ended up declining his fifth-year option and traded him in August of 2023 to the Giants for a seventh-round pick.

With the Giants he played some linebacker, safety and slot cornerback but where he really excelled was on special teams. The Packers will undoubtedly start him on many of Rich Bissacia's special teams units but don't be surprised if they try to find a spot for him some packages in Jeff Hafley's defense as well.

Way-too-early 2025 Packers 53 man roster prediction

Packers Deep Dive -- First Round Pick Matthew Golden

The Green Bay Packers broke a 23-year first-round wide receiver draught by selecting Matthew Golden with the 23rd overall pick in the NFL Draft, but the fact it happened in Green Bay made Thursday night serendipitous. However, the Golden selection is more than just a heartwarming story. The 21-year-old wideout from Texas is an absolute gamer and has the potential to be an impact player in Matt LaFleur's offense. While Golden doesn't boast elite size (5-11, 191), his 4.29 speed brings a special field-stretching element to the Packers roster.

After spending two seasons at Houston in a primarily supporting role, Golden transferred to Texas as a junior and broke out in his one season with the Longhorns, coming on late in the year and emerging as a star in the team's playoff run. Golden's 162-yard performance in the SEC Championship against Georgia put him on the national map. He finished the year as the Longhorns' leading receiver, tallying 58 receptions, 987 yards, and nine touchdowns.

Going into the draft, the Packers knew they wouldn't have Christian Watson for most of next season, leaving a major void in their offense--someone who can stretch the field and be a big-play threat. While Golden should help remedy this, he also offers more than just blazing speed. He possesses many attributes on the field that fans will love.

Packers Draft Pick Not to Sleep On

In any given NFL Draft, you would look at a day 1 or day 2 pick as a player expected to contribute in some fashion during their rookie season. When you get into day 3, those players are expected to be more depth additions in their rookie season, and maybe a year or two down the road, you hope for them to be contributors in some fashion. Sometimes, your main hope is that those day 3 guys can at least crack the 53-man roster. When those day 3 guys can make a decent impact in year 1 or 2 and beyond, they're considered sleeper picks.

During the first two days of this year's NFL Draft, the Packers were able to grab players who may have a chance to make a first-year impact, but what about day 3? Which of those five picks should Packers fans not sleep on?

Packers exercise fifth year option on Devonte Wyatt

Brian Gutekunst indicated he intended to keep former first round pick Devonte Wyatt in the fold one way or another. Now, he's ensured the Georgia product is locked in with the Packers through 2026 by exercising his fifth year option. The move makes sense after the team did not add to the defensive tackle room early in last week's draft coupled with what is considered to be a much weaker 2026 defensive tackle draft class.

Wyatt seemed to turn a corner last year in Jeff Hafley's defense. Unfortunately, the interior defensive lineman was unable to stay on the field due to several different injuries throughout the season. The move locks in the young defensive tackle at $12.94MM guaranteed for 2026.
