Packers dominate Lions to open season

Packers Pounce On Lions 27-13
Sunday’s home-opener was Lambeau Field’s first since 2018, and LaFleur’s first as head coach. A week of tantalizing hype manifested itself into tangible, defensive dominance. The crowd, roaring for Micah Parsons at every chance it had, and the defense fed off each other’s energy. In turn, Jeff Hafley’s crew feasted on the Lions.
Through three-and-a-half quarters, Green Bay held Detroit – last season’s best offense – to two field goals on two long, hard-fought drives. The Lions added their lone touchdown with a minute remaining and the game in hand.
“I was really proud of the energy our guys brought,” LaFleur said. “Defensively, it was a dominant performance. Our style of play was exactly what we wanted.” Before that final drive, the Packer defense was as ferocious as it was sound. The group generated nine tackles for loss, nine quarterback hits, four sacks, and an interception.
Parsons, playing in a limited role as he acclimates to game shape, registered a sack, a quarterback hit, and a handful of impactful pressures. The defense started the game with a three-and-out thanks to a Parsons pressure. The Packer offense answered accordingly with an opening-drive touchdown when Jordan Love delivered a 15-yard liner to Tucker Kraft on 3rd-and-9 for the score, 7-0.

Gut Reactions to the Packers dominating the Lions
CHTV co-founder Aaron Nagler chats with Packers fans worldwide after the team's 27-13 domination of the Detroit Lions to open the 2025 season.
Packers 27 Lions 13 Game Balls & Lame Calls
Since the game clock hit 0:00 on January 25th, the Packers and their fans had been waiting for this moment.
When the schedule was released on May 14th, we had this game circled, highlighted and surrounded by exclamation marks. But ten days ago, when the team made their biggest acquisition in thirty years, the Packers were finally ready. Would they have won without Micah? Most likely, with how the home team performed today (extending their home opener winning streak to thirteen straight years in the process). But the Packers didn't just win. They dominated.
In a game that saw the Packers start as a mere two point home favorite, Green Bay ends with a resounding 14 point victory, and I'd argue that the margin still doesn't do the team justice. They've got an exciting matchup on the horizon against the Commanders, but Green Bay has a couple of serious monkeys off their back. They beat an elite, NFC North opponent, and looked good doing it. The team should feel as confident as anybody in the league right now.

5 Takeaways From Packers 27 - 13 Lions: Parsons Supercharges Hafley’s Defense

It did not take long for Micah Parsons to make his mark on the Packers defense. He was a constant menace in his limited snap count, leaving All-Pro offensive tackle Penei Sewell fighting for his life when left one on one. The extra attention Parsons garnered only made life easier for his teammates up front, with Rashan Gary, Lukas Van Ness, Devonte Wyatt and Colby Wooden all having strong games.
His pressure caused the game’s only turnover, allowing Evan Williams to intercept a pass just as it looked like the Lions might find the end zone, which they did not end up doing until the final minute, when Isaac TeSlaa made a circus catch to put some lipstick on the pig for Detroit.
Hafley showed how brilliant of a defensive coordinator he is last season, coaching up a group which had plenty of good defenders, but not enough star power and turning them into a top ten defense. Now he has the cherry on top in Parsons, who should be a force multiplier for this unit and allow other players to shine.
Don’t miss four more takeaways from Sunday’s dominating win.

Packers Snap Counts vs. Detroit: Week 1 Of 2025
The Packers elevated Micah Robinson from the practice squad. The healthy scratches were OL Donovan Jennings, TE Ben Sims, and DL Warren Brinson. So, Stackhouse got the nod over Brinson. Nate Hobbs, Zayne Anderson, and Barryn Sorrell were inactive due to injury. Malik Willis and Micah Robinson were active but did not play.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Lions-Packers

The Lass Word: The King Is Dead

The king is dead. The bully of the NFC North has been slain. The Green Bay Packers have reclaimed ownership of Lambeau Field from the Detroit Lions, who had won there three years in a row.
In doing so, the Packers showed significant improvement in areas where they were deficient last season. Instead of another slow start, Green Bay took control on both sides of the ball early, going out to a 10-0 lead, and establishing a 17-3 advantage at halftime. Struggling to rush the passer last year, the Packers sacked Jared Goff four times, and knocked him down nine times. Concern about the run defense, particularly in light of the departure of Kenny Clark, turned out to be unwarranted. The Lions were held to a paltry 46 yards on the ground.
It’s just one game, but it was an important game. It puts the Packers at an early advantage in the division, defends their home field, and builds confidence in a team that, after going 1-5 in the North last year, and 2-6 against playoff caliber opponents, needed to prove to themselves that they can play with the big boys. In the lead up to the start of the season, Green Bay had become an increasingly trendy pick to win the NFC. On this day, they looked the part…
