Packers elect next President and CEO

Ed Policy elected next Packers President and CEO

Ed Policy, the Green Bay Packers’ chief operating officer and general counsel, has been elected as the organization’s next Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, a position he will formally assume in July of 2025 at the Packers Annual Meeting of Shareholders when Mark Murphy officially retires from the role.

Ron Wolf wrote a book called "The Packer Way," subtitled "Nine Stepping Stones to Building a Winning Organization." The Packer Way is very different from how most NFL teams operate these days, mostly thanks to the lack of a meddling billionaire owner. Policy has been educated in the "Packers Way" of doing things over his 12 years with the organization.

While you may mostly think of "The Packer Way" in terms of building their football team (players and coaches), those policies carry over to the rest of the organization. They most likely develop business-side personnel like they develop players. Cross-train in different disciplines, encourage versatility, provide opportunities and new responsibilities, trust them to execute, and promote from within to those who've earned it.

2024 Green Bay Packers Defensive Preview

Aaron chats with Cody Alexander of Match Quarters about his preview of the Green Bay Packers 2024 defense.

The Lass Word: Pack Hopes to Hit on Rookie Safety

The Green Bay Packers selected three safeties in the NFL draft last April. They took Javon Bullard in the second round, Evan Williams in the fourth, and Kitan Oladapo in the fifth. They are hoping at least one of them will break through and become a top flight safety companion to their newly signed free agent Xavier McKinney.

The Packers are completely rebuilding the safety position this offseason, and with good reason. The middle of the secondary has been a constant problem area for the team in recent years. In the playoff loss to the 49ers last January, quarterback Brock Purdy continually hurt Green Bay with throws over the middle. It is clear that if the Pack is to make a serious run at the Super Bowl in 2024, they have to get better coverage and tackling from the safeties.

Packers Still Not Sold on Anders Carlson As Their Kicker

The Green Bay Packers entered OTAs with three kickers on their 90-man roster. This unusual arrangement was designed for GM Brian Gutekunst to get some competition for Anders Carlson who led the NFL in missed kicks during his rookie season. He also missed a key field goal in the Packers playoff loss to the 49ers.

So, the Pack signed veteran Greg Joseph and undrafted free agent Jack Podlesny as competition. After the offseason program concluded, the Packers released Podlesny. But that doesn’t indicate that Gutekunst now has more confidence in Carlson or Joseph to be the team’s kicker in 2024. Almost immediately after the Packers released Podlesny, it was announced that the team tried to sign Jake Bates who was the All-UFL kicker. Bates instead signed with Detroit. Then, the following day, the Packers announced they had signed James Turner who the Lions placed on waivers after they signed Bates.

The Packers hope to find the right kicker to help the team contend for a Super Bowl this season and beyond.

Pack's What She Said: Looking ahead at future contract decisions

On this week's show, Perri and Maggie look at potential contract decisions the Packers will need to make beyond Jordan Love and Kenny Clark.

Karl Brooks Is Poised For A Takeover In 2024

In 2023, Karl Brooks was a top-ten rookie in sacks, QB hits, hurries, batted passes, and stops. He was PFF’s highest-rated Packers defensive player in the playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Brooks is poised to be even more disruptive in his second year, benefiting from greater familiarity with NFL speed and a system that accentuates his aggressive style. Packers fans have every reason to believe he will emerge as a reliable starter in Green Bay's lineup by the end of 2024.

There is Another Step for Rashan Gary To Take

When he is hot, Rashan Gary can be a devastating pass rusher. One of the best in the league. The kind who can take over a game and dominate. He’s also a humble guy who is never a locker room problem and displays a solid work ethic. The only thing keeping Gary from being elite is consistency. He led the Packers with nine sacks last season, playing in all seventeen games. But that sack total is a bit deceptive. The former Michigan Wolverine gets his sacks in bunches in individual games.

If the Packers are going to make a serious run at the Super Bowl in 2024, it feels as though Rashan Gary is going to have to achieve the consistent, elite level he has approached, but not quite established, through his first five years. He’s finally healthy, and he’s talking like he’s hungry and wants to lift a trophy. That could be very good news for the green and gold.

Cory's Corner: Deepest Wideout Room In NFC North

The Packers are five deep at wide receiver. That is absolutely crazy. You could make an argument that Watson, Doubs and Wicks could be a No. 1 wideout on a different team. Yes, Watson is technically still the No. 1 on this team, but it doesn’t really matter. Reed is sensational on third down. Doubs has great staccato movements and solid route running. Then there’s Melton, who will drop jaws at training camp this summer. And we didn’t even get a chance to mention Malik Heath.

A lot has been made about top shelf wideouts in the last few years, but if we’ve learned anything from the last couple drafts, it’s that you can build and assemble quality wideouts without breaking the bank or using a first round pick.

Thank god that era is over 😭
