Packers escape Jacksonville with a win

Packers win behind tough running by Josh Jacobs

On a hot autumn afternoon in Jacksonville FL, Green Bay was able to overcome losing QB Jordan Love to injury with RB Josh Jacobs putting the team on his back finishing with 127 YD on 25 CAR with 2 TD. TE Tucker Kraft lead the team in receiving yards with 78 on three catches and the Packers' defense was able to create two timely turnovers capitalizing with scoring drives. K Brandon McManus went 3/3 on XP and 3/3 on FG including his second straight game winning kick.

Packers 30, Jags 27: Game Balls / Lame Calls

It’s hard for a win to be deflating, but this Packers 30-27 win in Jacksonville fits the bill.

We’ll have to wait for injury reports on Jordan Love, Evan Williams and others who were banged up Sunday, especially with the Detroit Juggernauts looming next week. Even without that potential damage, this was a shaky performance in some important areas, and Green Bay was fortunate to leave the sunshine state with a W.

As was the case last week and for much of the season, the Packers are finding ways to win, and that cannot be undervalued. But that doesn’t mean it’s sustainable, particularly with a remaining schedule that includes two games with the Lions and meetings with San Francisco and Minnesota.

This coaching staff and front office have more than earned respect and patience, and this game should be chalked up to a bad day at the office. But the nagging issues continue to nag: Love playing hero ball with league-leading interceptions; an inability to run outside and average-to-poor cornerback play top the list.

Take a look at this week’s Game Balls and Lame Calls.

Pack’s What She Said: The Great Jacksonville Escape

The Packers walk off a win (again) in Jacksonville to beat the Jags 30--27. Jordan tweaked his groin so Malik Willis finished it off. In this episode we cover the highlights, the struggles, the game balls, the injuries, and more!

Packers Snaps Counts: Week 8 Versus The Jaguars

The Packers elevated Robert Rochell from the practice squad. It was his third elevation. The Packers released LS Matt Orzech to make room for DL Jonathan Ford, then released Ford and later signed Ford to the practice squad. The Packers then re-sign Orzech. Quay Walker and Corey Ballentine were held out of the game due to injuries, and the other inactives were Brenton Cox, Andre Dillard, Kitan Olapado, and Travis Glover.

Take a look at who played and how much with this week’s Packers Snap Counts.

The Lass Word: The effort is there

I really don’t know if this team is any good, but they sure play hard.  They bite, kick and scratch and never give up.  They battle back from adversity and usually find a way to prevail.  It’s not sustainable.  At least I don’t think it is.  But it’s been good enough to get the Green Bay Packers off to a 6-2 start and remain in the thick of the playoff picture.

The units on this team have a maddening way of turning hot and cold like a bathroom faucet.  Not just game to game, but drive to drive.  Brilliant plays are followed by bonehead mistakes.  Perfect execution quickly turns into senseless penalties.  A first half offense that looks unstoppable going down the field, suddenly goes dormant in the red zone.  A defense that played a mostly solid three quarters, turns into absolute mush in the final frame, failing to hold a ten point lead with six minutes left to play.

But somehow, there’s just enough talent, just enough desire, just enough resourcefulness to pull the game out.  We’re too far along to blame the drama on the youthfulness of the roster.  This is just how it’s going to be.  This Packers team is good enough to beat anybody, and inconsistent enough to lose to anybody.  Will that be good enough to make the playoffs….?
