Packers select their initial 53 man roster for 2024

Pause before cheering guys getting cut

Roster Cut Day is a day that we fans wait for anxiously and get all excited about. We study the preseason roster and make our predictions and rejoice when we're right about a player being released. It's pretty selfish isn't it? We're thrilled because we were right about something. But remember, someone has just lost their job and livelihood - and not just any job. It's something they've likely been working toward for a decade or more. Giving their all, enduring the pain and hard lessons. These players are willing to go through almost anything to reach their goal of getting on to an NFL roster. Oh to be one of the only 1696 people on earth to have achieved this goal! But just like that, it can all be taken away from them. So have some compassion for these guys. Don’t rejoice that a player you didn’t think was any good got cut. Just understand what they all go through and wish them well.

As for the makeup of the 53 man roster, Jersey Al goes through what he found surprising and what was expected in his weekly column.

Clifford back on Packers practice squad, Pratt headed to Tampa Bay

The Packers have brought back second year quarterback Sean Clifford as a member of the practice squad after he cleared waivers on Wednesday.

The plan is to elevate Clifford off the PS early on while newcomer Malik Willis learns the system. Expect Clifford to be the backup quarterback for at least the opener in Brazil when the Packers take on the Eagles.

The other quarterback in camp this summer, 7th round rookie Michael Pratt, has signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a practice squad member. Former Packers wide receiver Samori Toure signed with the Bears to be on their practice squad.

A few other Packers who were cut yesterday are also headed to new teams after being claimed off waivers, with wide receiver Grant Dubose headed to the Dolphins, offensive lineman Royce Newman heading to the Bucs and safety Anthony Johnson Jr. heading to the Giants.

Packers claim Brayden Narveson off waivers

As somewhat expected, the Packers did not stand pat at the kicker position after making Greg Joseph the lone kicker on their initial 53 man roster yesterday. Green Bay claimed rookie Brayden Narveson off waivers from Tennessee on Wednesday.

Narveson had a strong preseason, hitting 6 of 7 field goals, including a 59-yarder, while being perfect on extra points.

The Packers waived Greg Joseph to make room for Narveson.

Mosby Goes From Long Shot to Final Roster Spot

Considered a long shot to make the roster, defensive end Arron Mosby spent all of 2023 on the Packers practice squad. After a strong performance throughout training camp and preseason, Mosby has beaten some long odds and found himself on the initial 53 man roster.

One area Arron Mosby may contribute is inside at linebacker. Mosby played a bit of off-ball Linebacker in college as well as during his time with Carolina. With the injuries at linebacker, there is a chance that perhaps Mosby could see a few snaps in that position if needed, or at least act as a depth piece. The Packers have Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie, Eric Wilson, Edgerrin Cooper, and Ty'Ron Hopper, but with Cooper and Hopper missing long stretches of camp, Mosby could be insurance at the position.

Packers Periscope: Roster Musings, Receiver Appreciation and More

It's nice to have a fun preseason game, isn't it? The Pack bounced back 30-7 this past Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens, "setting the standard" as Matt LaFleur put it, from a defensive standpoint. It was objectively very fun defense to watch and one that I'm now certain will look vastly different from recent memory. While the game was surely enjoyable, the eye test proved out Brian Gutekunst was more aligned with us than we may have thought. The critical camp battles, namely at backup quarterback and kicker, showed that he's going to put together the best roster by any means necessary, recent draft picks or not.

Yesterday's final roster cut-downs indicate that the likes of Sean Clifford, Michael Pratt and Anders Carlson just couldn't cut it at their respective spots. The subsequent trade of QB Malik Willis and have-to-think-it's-happening-soon move of adding a kicker to replace Greg Joseph simply show that Gutey's looking everywhere to improve the roster. So this week, with a trip to Sao Paulo in our sights on the horizon, let's raise up the Periscope and take a look at this initial 53-man roster and pour out a couple for some darlings who will be playing 2024 elsewhere.

These cannabis gummies keep selling out in 2024

If you've ever struggled to enjoy cannabis due to the harshness of smoking or vaping, you're not alone. That’s why these new cannabis gummies caught our eye.

Mood is an online dispensary that has invented a “joint within a gummy” that’s extremely potent yet federally-legal. Their gummies are formulated to tap into the human body’s endocannabinoid system.

Although this system was discovered in the 1990’s, farmers and scientists at Mood were among the first to figure out how to tap into it with cannabis gummies. Just 1 of their rapid onset THC gummies can get you feeling right within 5 minutes!
