Packers bounce back to defeat Rams 24-19 in tale of two halves
The 100th meeting between the Packers and Rams came down to a dramatic fourth quarter as GB was able to hang on for the win bringing their record to 3-2. Early defensive player of the year candidate S Xavier McKinney had a fumble recovery and another interception picking up the slack with CB Jaire Alexander missing his second straight game. QB Jordan Love went 15/26 throwing for 224 YDS 2 TD and 1 INT while second year TE Tucker Kraft continued to establish himself as an offensive weapon with two touchdowns. 5 Takeaways From Packers 24 - 19 Rams
Another game, another underwhelming showing from Green Bay’s pass rushers. The Packers failed to make the QB, standing behind a beat up offensive line, uncomfortable with any regularity on Sunday, and the excuse of trying to maintain rush lanes to stop the quarterback from scrambling will not be available against 36-year-old Stafford this week. Missing Devonte Wyatt, Green Bay’s most consistent source of pressure in the early season, certainly did not help, but the Packers front generated alarmingly little pressure every time they rushed with four. Fortunately, Hafley managed to dial up some well timed blitzes to help his charges make enough plays to come out on top in this one, but the Packers need more from their front, which is full of highly paid veterans and former early draft picks. The trend is very concerning.

Packers 24, Rams 19: Game Balls / Lame Calls
Sometimes, you gotta win ugly, and get a bit lucky doing so. The Packers escaped the City of Angels with an important 24-19 win over the Rams, and there should always be a little time reserved to savor a victory. But this team and its coaching staff have to know that the to-do list remains long for a club with aspirations for a deep playoff run. On the plus side: Jordan Love is clearly on the mend, with more mobility and confidence than he showed last week against the Vikings. We still aren’t feeling the Love of late last season; there were times when his throws were tentative and lacked his usual zip. And as amazing as the first-drive bomb to Jayden Reed was, throwing into quadruple coverage was dubious, but Reed is one of the few NFL receivers who can to turn that kind of play into gold. Love got better as the game went along, as the Packers regained some of their third-quarter magic from last year. Meanwhile, Brayden Narveson drilled his only field-goal attempt, a 46-yarder, offering hope that maybe he can turn things around.
Defensively, Jeff Hafley was more aggressive, dialing up more blitzes than in previous outings. This was both positive and curious, given that Matthew Stafford is a known blitz killer, and in a few cases chunk plays for the Rams resulted. But the pressure caused Stafford to miss targets on several occasions. And Hafley’s crew once again came up with key turnovers, led as usual by Xavier McKinney, who had yet another interception and should have had a second one. Overall the defense is still a work in progress and without a clear identity, despite some lofty statistics. Erratic play at linebacker continues to bite, as do mysteriously mediocre performances from key personnel who are paid to be difference makers.

The Lass Word: Packers win a baffling game
What were Matt LaFleur’s first words in his post game news conference? “That was exhausting!” he said. Yes. Yes it was. It was also baffling. I’m sitting here staring at the final box score, scratching my head, trying to figure out how the heck Green Bay won this football game.
The Rams had more passing yards, more rushing yards, more time of possession, far more offensive plays, more first downs, more third down conversions and fewer penalties. And yet somehow they lost the game. The Packers were only able to pull off about six or seven big plays and somehow made them stand up to win this thing. I think we all know, no one more so than LaFleur and his players, that this is not sustainable.
They say good teams figure out how to win even if they’re not playing well. But in the NFL you can’t consistently live this dangerously and survive…
