Packers 30, Seahawks 13: Game Balls / Lame Calls
It seems to be the new Packers’ formula: Punch ‘em in the mouth early, build a solid lead and then let the opposition slowly creep back in so that by late in the third quarter it’s time to sweat. Sunday night in Seattle seemed to be following the script until QB Geno Smith went down, after which the rout was easily preserved.
Which is not to take anything away from Green Bay’s stellar performance overall. Vital contributions came from returning players and throughout a roster that hasn’t always played to its potential, especially on defense. On this night, those Packers gave future opponents several reasons to start sweating ahead of time.
Much has been made of how the Pack’s four losses have come against three teams with only two Ls apiece. It’s a notable accomplishment, especially considering the wins without Jordan Love, but it ignores the games against Houston, Jacksonville and Chicago that Green Bay was lucky to survive. But what we’ve seen more recently, against Miami, San Francisco and now Seattle, is a team ready and able to take care of business against stronger competition with smart, physical play. It bodes well.

The Lass Word: Exorcising Seattle demons
This was not so much a football game as it was an exorcism. Field of Dreams? Not this place. More like Field of Nightmares. Lumen Field in Seattle is where the demons of the past have haunted the Packers. The Fail Mary in 2012. The 2014 NFC championship game where Green Bay blew a 12 point lead in the final three minutes. So many other losses.
Matt LaFleur knew the history. He had his Packers ready to play. After a near flawless first half, he jogged into the locker room with a 20-3 lead. But the demons would not vaporize without a fight. The second half saw the Packers’ offense fall under an evil spell. A Josh Jacobs fumble gave the stumbling Seahawks new life. When Zach Charbonnet ran past the Green Bay defense for a 25 yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to ten points, you could almost hear the ghosts of 2014 stirring.
Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters of course. They were named Edgerrin Cooper and Romeo Doubs. Their big plays slimed any hope of a Seattle comeback. The curse is broken. The Packers can win in Seattle. And with those spirits dispersed, who knows how far this team can go? Next week Green Bay can punch its ticket to the post season with a win over the Saints at Lambeau field. Maybe, just maybe, the force is now with them…
