Packers Win Round One Vs The Bears

Nixon Snags 28-21 Win Over Bears
Ten days ago, the Green Bay Packer offense sealed a crucial victory on fourth down against a division rival. Sunday night, on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field, the Packer defense sealed a crucial victory on fourth down against a division rival. Keisean Nixon intercepted Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams in the end zone to ice a 28-21 win, and move the Packers past the Bears for first place in the NFC North.
“There’s a lot of confidence that comes with going through some struggle – whether it’s football or life – and being able to overcome it,” coach Matt LaFleur said. “I personally think resiliency is the key to life. You’ve just got to keep battling and we’ve got a bunch of guys in there that are willing to do that.”
While LaFleur’s philosophical statement focused on a very big picture, it certainly applied to the Week 14 game, and to Nixon himself. The seventh-year corner essentially spotted the Bears three points in the first half when he committed two personal foul penalties for 30 yards in the same drive. To be fair, the second penalty call was egregious.
“Football is an emotional game, especially when you talk about Packers Bears,” LaFleur said after the 211th meeting in the NFL’s oldest rivalry. “There’s a heightened sense of emotion and you can’t do anything that hurts the team. However, I will say that I was proud of how he responded. To have that interception at the end of the game was obviously a critical moment.”
The interception occurred on a fourth-and-1 at the Packer 14 with 27 seconds left. Chicago coach Ben Johnson called for a play-action pass to have Williams roll to his left with pass catchers rolling with him at different levels of the defense. Tight End Cole Kmet aligned inline on the play side and had the deep route. He briefly snuck wide open on an apparent coverage bust as three defenders covered the running back to the short flat.
Thankfully for the 80,000-plus screaming Cheeseheads, Nixon had followed his man across the field in time to peel underneath the open Kmet. Williams missed his chance, and out of options late in the down he left the pass short for Nixon to pick.

Packers 28 Bears 21 Game Balls & Lame Calls
What a game.
The Packers emerged victorious on Sunday, with what felt like the entire nation watching them. They've regained first place in the NFC North and still have a shot at the first seed in the NFC, along with the crucial first round bye and home field advantage that comes along with it. Green Bay has extended their winning streak to four games, their longest of the season.
Doesn't it feel like the Packers are starting to become he more level headed, battle tested team on the field, more often than not? Last season, even earlier this season, the Packers would frequently get in their own way. Do they still do that? Of course. But they are starting, slowly but surely, to become a team who is capable of winning these kinds of games. It's these contests that give you a sense of maturity behind Evan Williams' comments earlier this week, when he said "At our best we feel like we can beat any team in the league". It feels different than earlier this season, when Rasheed Walker declared that the team could go undefeated, and instead the team immediately fell on their face in Cleveland.
This team is battle tested, getting healthy, and in control of their own playoff destiny. And this game went a long way to proving that.
Don’t miss this week’s installment of Game Balls and Lame Calls.

Packers Snap Counts Vs. Chicago: Week 14, 2025
The Packers released Will Shephard from the 53-man roster and signed him to the practice squad. The Packers signed Jordan Riley, a nose tackle who was released by the New York Giants, to the 53-man roster. The Packers then claimed DL Quinton Bohanna off of Seattle's practice squad and moved Devonte Wyatt to the injured reserve list. Bohanna, a 6th round pick in 2021, is on his fifth team but has managed to play 640 defensive snaps in the NFL.
The Packers activated Jayden Reed from his practice window and released WR Malik Heath. It remains to be seen whether The Packers want to sign Heath to the Practice Squad and it very much is unclear whether Heath wants to return or feels it is time to see if the grass is greener somewhere else.
The inactive players due to health were Edge Lucas Van Ness and WR Savion Williams. OL Donovan Jennings, NT Nazir Stackhouse, and NT Bohanna were healthy scratches. Stackhouse was not given an injury designation at all this week so his demotion appears to be based on merit rather than injury. The coaches have said that Wicks and Golden were on pitch counts.

The Lass Word: The Beginning Of Something

This game felt like the beginning of something. Like the dawn of something special. When the dust finally settled on the frigid turf of Lambeau Field Sunday night, it felt like we had witnessed the origin of what will be years of classic match-ups between two of the bright young quarterbacks in the NFL.
The media tried hard to hype this game as some sort of personal grudge match between the head coaches. Instead, it unfolded as a tremendously entertaining display of clutch play by the two signal callers. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was sensational in the second half. Until his last play. Eluding sacks, throwing perfect passes on the run, using his legs to convert first downs, he showed all the earmarks of a future star. Jordan Love was a bit more uneven, but marshaled his troops with poise and moxie when his team absolutely had to have it.
Never has a Green Bay defense pressured a quarterback so well, and yet had so little to show for it. Williams frustrated them time and again with magical escapes and drive-sustaining passes and runs. But perhaps the law of averages caught up with him when he underthrew Cole Kmet in the end zone with 22 seconds left in the game, allowing Keisean Nixon to pick the ball off and preserve a heart stopping victory.
A terrific game. A terrific rivalry. They will do it again in two weeks. Can’t wait.
With the win, the Packers now have the third best record in the conference, a half game behind the Rams and Seahawks. More importantly, Green Bay takes back the lead in the NFC North, half a game ahead of the Bears, a game and a half out front of the Lions….
