Carry The G Radio: Packers Buzz at NFL League Meetings
On the latest episode of Carry The G Radio, Aaron and Billy dive into the chatter coming out of the league meetings and what it could mean for Green Bay moving forward. They break down what stood out, why it matters, and what fans should be watching as the offseason unfolds.
If There Was Ever A Time For Matt LaFleur To Solve A Problem, That Time Is Now
After losing five straight games to end the season and another premature playoff exit, Matt LaFleur went into the offseason hoping to identify the root of the issues that have plagued his team.
LaFleur sat down with the media in Arizona at the NFL Annual League Meeting. It’s the first time LaFleur has spoken to the media since January. He was asked what it would take to help the Packers get over the hump of being the seventh seed in the NFC. He talked about finishing games. He talked about injuries. He touched on mentality. He even mentioned the need to strip things down as if it’s year one all over again. But those weren't the most concerning answers.
It was roles. Or lack thereof.
“There were some guys that were upset about roles last year," LaFleur shared on Monday morning. "I think that took a toll on our football team.”
LaFleur's answer was unexpected and not exactly encouraging. There's been plenty of speculation about the players’ respect for Matt LaFleur how last season ended, and that speculation intensified after the NFLPA annual player survey was released. Matt LaFleur received a B-minus grade. His grade the season before was an A-minus. LaFleur was one of only six head coaches to receive a grade lower than a B. It's fair to say his team wasn't satisfied.
LaFleur is heading into his eighth season as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers, and he speaks about team culture often. LaFleur could’ve taken his answer in any direction or dodged the question entirely. Instead, he addressed it head-on, and his answer on Monday morning left a lot to unpack. Unfortunately, it may lead to more questions than answers. Who had a problem with their role? Do the Packers have a culture problem? How can LaFleur address the problem?
Odds Are Against Packers Finding Impact Rookie in 2026 Draft
Around this time last year, we wrote about the idea that chasing ‘impact’ rookies is a fool’s errand and is not something with which to measure the quality of a team’s drafting ability.
In that article, we detailed how only 32 of 257 drafted players achieved a PFF grade of 70 or higher as a rookie, with the 70 mark representing an above average player.
That was a rate of just 12.5%, and after removing the players whom the Packers could not have drafted as they were taken before Green Bay’s 1st round pick, the rate fell to just 9%, with just 21 out of 235 rookies drafted from pick 23 onwards playing at an above average level.
This year’s update brings the unlikelihood of finding impact rookies into even sharper focus.
Last season there were only 26 rookies who played enough snaps to qualify for PFFs rankings and earned a grade of 70 or higher out of 257 draft picks. That is a rate of just over 10%, and means on average, not every team in the league had even one above average rookie.
Green Bay did have one rookie to hit the 70 mark, which was their 1st round Pick Matthew Golden. While he did not have as big of a role in the offense as he may have hoped, the quality of his play when given opportunities was high, and bodes well for 2026 and beyond.
As was the case in 2024, many of those players (9) were not even available to the Packers as they were picked before they were on the clock at number 23 overall.
The rookies picked ahead of Golden who did not clear 70 were Cam Ward, Travis Hunter, Will Campbell, Mason Graham, Mykel Williams, Kenneth Grant, Tyler Warren, Shemar Stewart, Grey Zabel, Emeka Ebguka (despite his strong counting stats), Jahdae Barron and Derrick Harmon.
As we spin forward, there is now there is a new factor to throw into the mix in that the Packers do not have a 1st round pick this year, or indeed next year…
Packers Could Still Play Overseas
One of the more interesting nuggets from Ed Policy’s media availability at the annual NFL’s owners meetings was that the Green Bay Packers could still be playing overseas in 2026.
On Tuesday, Policy indicated that the Packers could play the Lions or Saints as an away opponent in Europe this season. Policy said it’s still possible for the Packers to play the Lions in Munich or the Saints in Paris during the 2026 season. (The Packers will host nine games at Lambeau Field this season.)
So far the Packers have played just two regular season international games, both coming since the league expanded to 17 regular season games. In 2022, the Packers lost to the Giants 27-22, playing at London’s Tottenham Stadium In 2024, in the league’s fist game played in Brazil, the Packers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 34-29, playing in Sao Paolo.

The Most Packers-y Player at Each Position This Year
The 2026 draft is officially less than a month away, and that means it’s time to kick the pre-draft process into overdrive.
It’s this time of the year when we as fans begin the process of developing our draft crushes, only to be inevitably let down when the Packers don’t take that player. It’s a natural part of the draft, and an important part of being a 365 day fan of the NFL. For fans of the Green Bay Packers, however, it goes a little bit further. Not only do you have to know the player, but you’ve got to know their testing.
This idea has been written about a thousand times by a thousand authors, so keep in mind that we won’t be expanding on the idea of the Packers’ strict adherence to athletic thresholds. Nor will this be an attack or defense of those ideas. Instead, our job is to work within those confines to bring you, dear reader, the most Packers-y of prospects available in the draft. This also means that we are a bit limited in our actual range of prospects, since this was a pretty disappointing year in terms of players actually doing the drills that they are supposed to do while at the combine in Indy… That’s a topic for another day, however.
We’ll also be working within the most realistic range of prospects available to the Packers, without a first round pick. Would Sonny Styles and Jeremiah Love be Packers types? Yeah, you bet. Will they actually end up as Green Bay Packers? No. This also means that these players aren’t necessarily our favorite prospects at each spot, just the ones that we think the Packers will like the most.
With that in mind, let’s dive in!

A Look into the Future: More of Javon Bullard
With his toughness, adaptability, and quickly developing coverage skills, Javon Bullard has swiftly emerged as one of the Green Bay Packers' most valuable defensive chess pieces. His rise to prominence as a dependable slot defender and hybrid safety gives Green Bay flexibility that will only help in the long run, stabilizing a youthful defense and raising the unit's ceiling.
Bullard is an integral part of the Packers defense. More than just football skill, Bullard’s mentality and how he goes about things makes me believe he is the future of Packers defensive football, and will one day be a captain.
Bullard's ability to perform well in a variety of tasks is one of his strongest assets. Due to injuries elsewhere on the team, he alternated between nickel corner and deep safety during his rookie season. That experience sped up his development rather than slowed it down. He was the Packers' main slot corner by 2025, yet he was still able to switch back to safety when necessary. Players who broaden the playbook are highly valued by defensive coaches, and Bullard accomplishes just that.
Just 23 years old, the rise in Bullard’s level of play from year 1 to year 2 is undeniable.
