The Fight For The Division Starts Now

Packers Would "Love" a Home Victory over Vikings
Since Jordan Love became the team’s starting quarterback in 2023, the Packers are just 1-3 against the Vikings and 0-2 at Lambeau Field. The Packers also had identical records in 2023 and 2024 against the Detroit Lions. In that week 1 contest, Green Bay turned in best performance of the season, defeating the two-time defending division champions in a convincing 27-13 win.
Heading into this weekend’s Week 12 contest, the Vikings have been very up and down. In one week they have an impressive come-from-behind victory over the Chicago Bears and then they lay an egg against the Atlanta Falcons. They followed up their win against the Detroit Lions with two straight home losses to the Baltimore Ravens and Chicago Bears. This is likely with what comes from having a rookie quarterback.
The Packers entered their 2023 and 2024 matchups with the younger starting quarterback in three of those four matchups. All three of those were losses; two to Sam Darnold and one to Kirk Cousins. The lone packers win in the rivalry was in 2023 when Jaren Jall and Nick Mullens took the snaps at quarterback. The game was a runaway 33-10 win, with Love finishing three touchdown passes, two to Jayden Reed and another to Bo Melton. Melton had over 100 yards receiving, the only 100-yard performance from a wide receiver in the 2023 regular season.
In last seasons two games, the Vikings defense led by Brian Flores was able to neutralize the Packers passing game. Last season, after having the big performance in Week 4, the Flores-led defense allowed just 185 yards from Love and one touchdown pass, which came in the final two minutes of the game. The Vikings defense will show a lot of Cover 2 to the Packers offense.
After struggling in the two games against the Vikings last year, Love has been very successful against Cover 2 this season. According to PFF, Jordan Love is completing 91.7% of his passes against Cover-2 this season — a modern NFL record. Against Cover 2 this season Love is 33/36 for 392 yards.
Sunday presents a big test for Love and the Packers offense.

Win Any Way You Can
It wasn’t a great game. Heck, it wasn’t even a good game. But the most important part was the fact that the Packers got a much-needed win. The Packers beat the Giants 27-20 at MetLife Stadium despite the drops on both sides of the ball, the leaky run defense and playing against banged up Giants receivers.
“It’s the NFL,” said Jordan Love, who threw for 174 yards, two touchdowns and a passer rating of 105.2. The Packers offense dropped as many as seven balls. Romeo Doubs led the Packers with 53 yards receiving, but he also had a pair of drops. But it was Christian Watson who stepped up in a big way with four catches for 46 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The first touchdown was delivered from backup quarterback Malik Willis, who found Watson in the back of the end zone on third-and-goal at the Giants 1 late in the first quarter.
“Honestly, that was like backyard football,” said Watson, who was playing his fourth game of the season after coming back from a torn ACL. “I wasn’t really supposed to be in that spot, but I just saw a couple guys fly out, I went to dive down and get back to the corner. The corner is playing outside leverage, so I didn’t really have any space to go. I didn’t want to muddy up the window out there, so I kind of just stopped and Malik found me.”
The Packers signed Watson to a one-year $13.25 million extension in September, which will keep him in Green Bay through 2026. Watson made a 17-yard touchdown grab between two Giants defensive players with 4:02 left in the game to give the Packers the lead and the eventual winning margin. Watson is the best and most reliable pass catcher right now.
The Packers defense has been pretty consistent this year, but on Sunday, it was gashed on the ground. Tyrone Tracy Jr. rushed 19 times for 88 yards — the highest output of the season for the fifth round pick. And then there were the dropped passes. The defense dropped four potential interceptions.
“I get it’s nit-picky but it’s the little things that win games and against better teams and greater teams,” said Micah Parsons, who had six tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. “If they’re going to give us an opportunity to get off the field, we got to take advantage of it.”
He’s right. The Packers have to be able to put teams away and put their stamp on a game. But this game was a positive because the play-action, bootleg and presnap movement made a return to the offense. Things that were proven to work in the past, worked again on Sunday. Was it perfect? By all means no. But it was a win and the Packers have to continue to improve.
Let's Talk Football: Opening up the offense
Aaron Nagler and Andy Herman break down Green Bay’s 27–20 win over the Giants — a game full of drops, protection issues, special teams chaos… and Jordan Love absolutely refusing to lose.
The Packers Have A Bright Future In The Secondary
The Green Bay Packers stand victorious after a sluggish, ugly win against the New York Giants. They now sit at 6-3-1 on the year, second place in the NFC North and sixth in the NFC. It feels like a lifetime ago that the Packers were actually the first seed in the NFC, even though that was only three short weeks ago. A lot can change in three weeks in the NFL, and following two straight losses at home will have your season flipped on its head, no matter who you are.
Now, when your only three losses on the year come were dealt by a three point difference, there are going to be a lot of questions thrown around on the offensive side of things. While the defense hasn’t been totally lost in the discussion, they seem to have a back seat in the minds of media and fans alike. And that’s a bit strange, seeing how they’ve probably exceeded the wildest dreams of Packers fans, even after the Micah Parsons trade.
We’re only two years removed from every Packers fan in the world demanding the head of Joe Barry on a silver platter, after all. Let’s take a look at some of the numbers. The Packers are currently allowing the sixth least total yards per game, are tenth in passing yards per game and seventh in rushing yards per game. They’re seventh in points allowed per game, and currently have a +1 turnover differential over the year. According to some of the more analytical sides of the football world, the Packers also rank highly. PFF has them as the fourth highest rated defense in the league, with the highest tackling grade and the second highest coverage grade. They’ve got the ninth best rate of success rate allowed, and are 17th in EPA per play.
As the 2025 season has progressed, a few bright stars have emerged for the Packers in the form of their youngest contributors. Evan Williams, Javon Bullard, and Carrington Valentine. They’ve fought tooth and nail to establish their own individual spots in this secondary, and have made the most of those opportunities.
A Bounce Back Game From Matt LaFleur
Some naysayers will refuse to give him credit for anything, and hand wave Sunday’s game away as ‘barely beating a two-win team’, but the fact is LaFleur called a great offensive game against the Giants.
He made the adjustments many had wanted to see, including less conservative play calls on 2nd down. The Packers offense finished off a drive for a touchdown after Love left with the shoulder injury, and the only thing that slowed them down in this game was untimely drops.
They also had to adapt to Josh Jacobs going down in the first half, and did so effectively. Sure, a lack of execution can in some way be tied to coaching, and of course it was not a perfect game from the coaches or players, but they moved the ball at will and LaFleur deserves credit for the way his team fought, put up points and found a way to win.
