Training Camp Kicks Off!

Keep Your Eye On These Position Battles For The Final Few Roster Spots
Training camp is here, and with it comes one of the most fun parts to follow — filling out the roster. Over the next month and a half, we'll all be watching guys battle it out to secure those final few roster spots. The Packers are in a strong position — their starting lineup is close to locked in, and they have depth at a lot of different spots. But there will be some real battles brewing at a few key positions for those last few jobs.
Green Bay has some intriguing questions to sort out over the next month. Who rounds out a crowded receiver room behind the four established names? Which offensive linemen separate themselves in a group that's nine or ten deep? With Micah Parsons starting the season on PUP, who steps up to fill the pass-rush void? And what ends up happening in the secondary?
These aren't just camp battles for camp battles' sake — how they shake out will shape this roster heading into Week 1.
Let's dig into four position groups where there are roster spots still up for grabs.

Training Camp 2026: Packers "Season of What If's?"
The Green Bay Packers are heading into the 4th season of the Jordan Love era and are entering the season as one of just three NFC teams to make the playoffs the last three seasons (the others being the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams).
However, the 2025 season ended with a third-straight No. 7 seed in the NFC and a second-straight wild card round exit.
The 2026 Packers team feels like a team who’s several “What If’s” away from being a serious Super Bowl contender. If the Packers are to win their division title in five years and potentially go deep in the NFC playoffs again, these eight “What If’s” will play a big role.
5 Packers Under Pressure to Perform at Training Camp 2026
MarShawn Lloyd The injuries Lloyd has dealt with throughout the first two years of his NFL career are not his fault, and no one will have been more frustrated than him at his lack of ability to contribute. Now though, it is put up or shut up time. There have been positive reports regarding the Packers and Lloyd being able to diagnose the source of his recurring injury issues this offseason, so we will see if he can finally have a healthy training camp and eventually get on the field in the regular season. With Josh Jacobs’ status still up in the air, Green Bay could really benefit from Lloyd’s presence, if the legend of his electric on-field ability proves to be true. It feels like now or never for Lloyd entering training camp.
Luke Musgrave After a bright start to his career as a rookie, Musgrave has faded into the background following Tucker Kraft’s emergence, partly hindered by injuries of his own. By the end of last season he was being outsnapped by John FitzPatrick, which does not bode well for his prospects of making an impact in 2026. He can still have a role as a seam stretching tight end, complementing the other skillsets in the room, but as he heads into the last year of his rookie deal, Musgrave has a lot of work to do if he wants to avoid being an afterthought in the offense once more.
Anthony Belton Belton deserves credit for battling through his rookie year, particularly after being thrown into the fire at right guard in the season, having not practiced there at all during the summer. He improved as the season went on, and now enters training camp as the clubhouse leader to hold down the right guard spot permanently in 2026. There is a new challenger though in the form of rookie 5th round pick Jager Burton. Burton had most of his success in college at center, but can play guard and got some looks with the first team offense during the offseason program. He has earned praise from the coaches who seem excited about his potential, and he has a chance to push Belton for his job. Belton needs to bring his A-game this summer and show he is continuing to progress.
Brenton Cox Jr. With Micah Parsons currently not in the picture, there are plenty of reps up for grabs at the outside linebacker spot. Lukas Van Ness will start, with a group of young pass rushers, headlined by Cox and Barryn Sorrell, competing for the other starting position. Cox had some bright flashes in 2024. Former defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley sung his praises and was proven right, as Cox had 18 pressures and four sacks per PFF in just 112 pass rush reps. Unfortunately, his 2025 season was mostly derailed by injuries. Now heading into his fourth season in the NFL, he will not get a better chance than this to make his mark.
Ty’Ron Hopper Hopper was a controversial 3rd round pick at the time he was selected, and has not had much of an impact in his first couple of years in the league, playing only 151 defensive snaps in that time, although he did have an interception in the playoff loss to the Bears. In Jonathan Gannon’s 3-4 scheme, there is now even less scope for him to get on the field, with only two off-ball linebackers needed on the field at most. Edgerrin Cooper, Zaire Franklin and Isaiah McDuffie seem firmly entrenched ahead of him on the depth chart, while Nick Niemann and Kristian Welch offer value as designated special teamers. If Hopper is to stay in the minds of the coaches and give himself a chance of developing into a real contributor for the Packers, he needs to be at the top of his game this summer.

Packers Officially Place Micah Parsons on PUP Ahead of Training Camp
The move everyone expected is now official.
The Packers placed edge rusher Micah Parsons on the reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP) list ahead of the start of training camp as he continues his recovery from the torn ACL he suffered against the Broncos in Week 15 last season.
While the transaction doesn't come as a surprise, it does set the stage for what's likely to happen when the regular season arrives. Parsons has already indicated he doesn't expect to be ready until after the first month of the season, meaning the Packers are widely expected to keep him on the regular-season PUP list after final roster cuts. If that happens, he'll miss at least the first four games of the 2026 campaign.
Parsons wasn't among the initial group of players placed on PUP Monday (which included Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave, Javon Hargrave and Aaron Banks) but instead was part of a second wave of transactions on Tuesday. Joining him on the reserve/PUP list are tackle Brant Brooks, long snapper Matt Orzech, defensive lineman Jordon Riley and nose tackle Nazir Stackhouse.

Packers sign new kicker, Lenny Krieg
The Green Bay Packers swapped legs just ahead of training camp.
After a successful tryout on Monday, the Packers signed kicker Lenny Krieg. The move came just one day before Green Bay's first training camp practice. In a cooresponding move, the Packers released kicker Lukas Havrisik.
Krieg arrives in Green Bay after taking an unconventional path to the NFL. A native of Germany, he built his career overseas with the Berlin Adler of the German Football League and the Stuttgart Surge of the European League of Football before earning an opportunity with the Atlanta Falcons through the NFL's International Player Pathway program.
He will join rookie Trey Smack, the Packers' sixth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Smack entered the offseason as the favorite thanks to the organization's investment in him on draft weekend, but the addition of Krieg makes it clear the Packers intend to create as much competition as possible.
With training camp officially underway, all eyes are on who can make the most of their opportunities.

Ahman Green Announces He Has Parkinson’s Disease
The Green Bay Packers opened training camp this week as the team’s official preparations for the 2026 NFL season are under way. However, some bad news came to Packers Nation at the same time as former Packers running back Ahman Green announced he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. He made the announcement on the “Go Long” podcast with Tyler Dunne.
Green joined the Packers in 2000 in one of the best trades in Packers history. The Packers sent Fred Vinson and a sixth-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks for Green and a fifth-round selection. Green remained on the Packers for the next seven seasons and then briefly rejoined the club in 2009. He enjoyed six seasons of 1,000 or more yards rushing and finished his career as the team’s all-time leading rusher, surpassing Hall of Famer Jim Taylor.
Green explained how he was diagnosed. “Last year, I got diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s,” he told Dunne. “I had a little bit of the feet twitching when I'm in my sleep and stuff like that. I knew something was going on long before that. I just got a hold of some doctors that I was able to get in contact with. Get the diagnostics, get the testing. And finally got it tested last — it was January of 2025.”
Green now faces a very difficult fight. He was already emphasizing a healthy diet, but now that and his treatments become even more important if he hopes to maintain an active lifestyle for as long as possible.
As of now, Green is unsure if the diagnosis is related to his football career and the pounding his body took over the years. He hopes to raise awareness and help others who are struggling with the condition.
“It needs to be up front,” Green said. “It needs to be a topic that's always hit. And it's not the end all. To me, I have a jump ahead of it. Just like anybody discovering that they have some type of cancer in their body, I'm ahead of it right now.”
We wish Green well in his new fight and in everything that lies ahead. He may now be facing the biggest challenge of his life.
What Tyrod Taylor Brings as the New Packers Backup Quarterback
Green Bay Packers fans have been spoiled over the last two seasons. They had a backup quarterback who was arguably the best second-string signal caller in the NFL in Malik Willis. Now, Willis will be the starter in Miami, and the Packers have turned to veteran Tyrod Taylor as their new backup. But what does Taylor bring to the mix and is this a step down from Willis?
Willis did a great job as the Packers backup quarterback. He seemed to be on the verge of being the third string quarterback on a struggling Titans team or even possibly being released when the Packers traded for him. But his move to Green Bay and the work of Matt LaFleur and the Packers coaching staff helped Willis turn things around. Willis put in plenty of work learning the offense and working on his mechanics and footwork.
While Taylor may not be as dynamic or as dangerous as Willis was, he brings more experience and could help mentor starter Jordan Love in a way that Willis never could. More importantly, he will fulfill the role of a solid NFL backup quarterback: to give his team a chance to win a game or two if the starting quarterback is unavailable to play.
Taylor may be a step down from Willis, but he gives the Packers a steady, reliable backup who can get the job done. The Packers hope they don’t need Taylor to play often this season, but if he does play, they know they can rely on him to give the team a chance to win any game.
