Wrapping up the offseason with Brian Gutekunst
Wrapping up the Packers offseason program
The Packers wrapped up their offseason program on Wednesday with the conclusion of minicamp. Corey and Aaron were lucky enough to chat with Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst on the latest edition of Packer Transplants LIVE to get his thoughts on the team heading into the summer break. We can’t thank Brian enough for taking the time to talk to us!
This Will Be a Fun Offense to Watch
The youngest team in the NFL last year is now a team of experienced, youthful eager beavers. Like any good scientist about to embark on a challenge to find a successful new formula, Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich can’t hide his enthusiasm. “We can start experimenting with things faster and just start taking the next steps with the offense, so it’s been good.”
As the 2023 season wound down, the Green Bay offense put up 33 points on the Panthers, 33 again on the Vikings, then laid a 48 point barrage on the Cowboys (though seven of those points came on a pick six). The best part? They’re only going to get better, especially if the laboratory experiments bear fruit this summer. If you enjoyed watching the Green Bay offense last year, rest assured the fun has just begun.
Don’t Forget About Carrington Valentine
While Eric Stokes has looked fast at Green Bay Packers OTAs, fans should not forget that Stokes doesn’t have the starting corner spot opposite Jaire Alexander wrapped up just yet. He is in a battle with Carrington Valentine who surprised a lot of people with his strong play as a rookie a year ago.
For his rookie season, Valentine showed promise. According to Pro Football Reference, opposing quarterbacks completed 57.6 percent of their passes when throwing to receivers covered by Valentine and had a quarterback rating of 84.8. Valentine’s strengths included his physicality.
Don’t bet against Valentine putting up a good fight for the starting job or even winning it. All he’s done so far since joining the Packers has been going out and proving skeptics wrong.

Could Zach Tom Be Out Longer than Anticipated?
You hear and read every NFL offseason about a player either having clean-up surgery or potentially getting hurt during offseason practices or workouts. More often than not, the team says the player will make a full recovery and be ready for training camp. And that was the exact message Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur communicated to reporters late last month regarding a torn pectoral muscle suffered by right tackle Zach Tom during an offseason lifting session in mid-April.
If there are a handful of players on the Packers who should not be rushed back before fully healthy, starting right tackle Zach Tom is certainly one of those players. He finished the 2023 season ranked 16th among offensive tackles in ESPN’s Pass Block Win Rate (PBWR), with 341 charted “wins” in 375 plays (91%), and allowed only two sacks. Moreover, when he faced off against three of the premiere pass rushers in the game – T.J. Watt, Aidan Hutchinson, and Cameron Jordan – he was stellar, allowing only nine QB pressures and did not allow a single sack of quarterback Jordan Love against those players, according to Pro Football Focus.
Put simply, a Green Bay offensive line with Tom is significantly better than one without him, making it imperative the Packers and Tom take a conservative approach.
Packers adding another weapon?
Packers Fans Should Feel Safe In São Paulo
Packers running back Josh Jacobs recently appeared on Chris Long's podcast, where they discussed the upcoming Packers vs. Eagles matchup in São Paulo. During the conversation, Jacobs mentioned that they were advised not to wear green. He speculated whether it had something to do with gangs, although that’s not true. The issue surrounding the color green arises from a local soccer rivalry, not gang rivalries.
There has been a lot of misinformation regarding how safe São Paulo actually is. In his first post for CHTV, our newest contributor Felipe gives som straightforward information and tells Packers fans why they and the team will be fine in Brazil.

Jeff Hafley Isn't Scared of Matt LaFleur
On Monday, Keisean Nixon appeared on the "Up & Adams Show" with Kay Adams and absolutely glowed when asked about his new Defensive Coordinator. Nixon commented that Jeff Hafley is a very competitive guy and he enjoys the fact Hafley has a background as a defensive backs coach. For the first time in Nixon's career, his coordinator's expertise is the secondary, so it's exciting having most defensive concepts start with the back end.
He continued to say that Jeff Hafley came in immediately with the mindset of finding out how can he get the defense to play like the best defense in the league. Sounds about normal for any new Defensive Coordinator right? Sure. But what stuck out to me the most, is that Keisean Nixon stated that, unlike other Defensive Coordinators, Jeff Hafley is not there to compliment Matt LaFleur. He wants his defense to go after the offense even in practice.
